All Our Own Crafts Celebrates 5th Birthday

01 October 2019

All Our Own Crafts will be celebrating 5 years with a special birthday weekend event on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October 2019.

All Our Own Crafts, the increasingly-popular pop-up shop, originally opened its doors on 6th October 2014 and is celebrating its fifth birthday with a special weekend event. The shop is run and managed by Mark Cooper and founded by business partners Kate Donohoe and Jackie Denham.

A highly acclaimed business, All Our Own Crafts were top three finalists at 2016’s ‘Place to be Proud Of’ awards, run by Destination Basingstoke. They also won the ‘Best Visual Display’ award from Festival Place for their ‘Winter Wonderland’ Christmas window display over Christmas 2017 which was created and designed by Helen Dyne, who also displays her handmade glass artwork in the shop.

Across the last five years, over 100 different local craft businesses have displayed and sold their crafts in the shop, as well as art students from BCOT and Dove House School Academy. To celebrate five years of the shop’s existence, a ‘Birthday Weekend’ celebration will take place in the shop on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October, with a special offer for customers of £5 off if £50 or more is spent in a single transaction.

Mark Cooper has managed the shop full-time since January 2018. “There’s been a significant growth lately with eco-awareness and we have seen this increase in the shop over the last couple of years,” he explained. “To have some of our craft businesses using upcycled and recycled material in their work is helping us to keep this message alive. Because of our location at busy shopping centre Festival Place, not only are we visited by local customers, but also people from all over the world,” he continued. “To be able to offer a diverse array of crafts to our customers is fantastic.”

Co-founder Jackie Denham, said, “All Our Own Crafts is a great platform for independent designer-makers to show their works on the high street and we are eternally grateful to Festival Place for giving us this opportunity. The continuous positive feedback and footfall we receive from our customers shows there is a need for individual handmade products and I hope we can continue with this venture for many more years to come.”

Co-founder Kate Donohoe added, “It’s so wonderful to see how far we have come in just five years. From an idea in August 2014, to opening our doors for the first time just six weeks later with 23 local businesses under our roof, it is a privilege to have worked with over 100 small local businesses within our shop over the past five years. A huge thank you from all of us to Festival Place for giving us a chance five years ago, allowing us the opportunity to grow our shop into what you see today – and beyond!”

All Our Own Crafts is currently situated opposite Laura Ashley, between GoGo Gadget and Beaverbrooks, and will be open every day until Christmas Day this year. Opening hours for the shop are 9am until 6pm Mondays to Fridays; 9am until 7pm Saturdays and 11am until 5pm on Sundays.
