Festival Place sets the stage for a fairy tale Christmas

23 October 2019

Enchanting spells will be cast over Festival Place in Basingstoke this Christmas transporting visitors into a world of magical fairy tales.

The most wonderful time of the year officially begins on November 16, when a host of colourful fairy tale characters band together to bring the storybook world to life.

The retail and leisure destination’s big brand stores, eateries and leisure facilities will all be joining in the whole day launch event full of festive fun, running from 10am until 7pm.

The Festive Fairy will lead the celebrations, delighting visitors and spreading her sparkle as a host of free magical activities pop up throughout the day.

Keep your eyes peeled, expect the unexpected and who knows what you will find? You may come across Festa the talking reindeer, a magic mirror, marching soldiers, wind-up doll dancers and mischievous elves!

Following the launch day, there will be further surprises in store to delight shoppers throughout November and December.

A magical pop-up pantomime Festa and the Frozen Fjords will transport audiences to a wintry wonderland, and a series of festive workshops will invite visitors to learn how to make traditional gingerbread men, Christmas crackers, and beautiful floral wreaths for the Christmas table and front door.

Younger visitors will love to see Santa at the traditional grotto, test all this year’s favourite toys, and dress up in sparkly fairy wings, a perfect opportunity to snap that festive photo.

Meanwhile, mums and dads will appreciate help from The Happy Wrappy gift-wrapping service in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice, and a festive train that will take visitors and all their shopping around the upper level to and from Paperchase. The train will run at weekends from November 16 – December 22 and will cost just £1 per person with all proceeds going to St. Michael’s Hospice.

Festival Place’s cheerful staff will be on hand in the Customer Lounge to help make your visit as easy as possible, with click and collect, gift cards and lockers all available.

“This will be a joyful fairy tale Christmas, with magical surprises at every turn!” said Neil Churchill, Festival Place Centre Director.

“We all love a really traditional Christmas, and the Festival Place team will be pulling out all the stops to create something special, with candy canes, gingerbread men, toy soldiers, a magical Christmas grotto and even a talking reindeer!

“It will be six weeks of fantastic festive fun – and Festival Place’s huge range of top-brand retailers, leisure facilities and restaurants will make this year’s Christmas shopping trip one to remember!”

Visiting Festival Place by car is easier than ever thanks to the multi-million-pound car park refurbishment, which includes a smart system to highlight free spaces, a find my car service, and six electric charging points.
