Interactive Careers Inspiration Event a Huge Success

Basingstoke Consortium’s Get Inspired Basingstoke inspired 100’s of young people from across the town and surrounding areas on 28th January 2019 at the Apollo Hotel, Basingstoke.

The free event brought together businesses and organisations in Basingstoke and the local area to give school pupils aged 10 – 16 year-olds an opportunity to learn about in their industry.

A total of 27 businesses came together to inspired 300 young people from 11 schools with interactive activities to help engage them in gaining an understanding of the vast range of careers available in the local area.

The interactive activities included AWE educating young people to use tablets to program robot spheres. Students were able to learn from this basic programming and technology developments within the engineering industry; and the SUN Network had a selfie stand where students were able to stand in-front of the green screen and have a selfie taken during which gave them an opportunity to have fun and learn about Level 4 study.

Madeleine aged 12 said, ‘Before this event I didn’t know what I wanted to do but this event has shown me great options for careers and it has shown me just how many things I could be. All the activities were fun and helped us learn about the sort of skills you need for certain jobs.’

Basingstoke Consortium’s SkillsTree Awards also took place during that day with a VIP guestlist including the Lord Mayor. It recognised the businesses, educational organisations that have gone above and beyond in connecting young people to the world of work; as well as the young people who have excelled in the opportunities in being connected to businesses through work experience or other activities.

Basingstoke Consortium’s Get Inspired Basingstoke event is a free event for schools to attend and businesses to exhibit. The event was sponsored and supported by SUN Network and Basingstoke and Dean Council.
