As part of our Basing Folk campaign and to celebrate International Men's Day, we spoke to influential men from around Basingstoke Town Centre. One of these was Rob Parker, Specialist Family Solicitor and Partner at Lamb Brooks.
What is your current role?
Specialist Family Solicitor and Partner at Lamb Brooks.
What is the most interesting part of your role?
Interacting with members of the public and getting to make a real difference. People come to see me in difficult, often upsetting circumstances and the job satisfaction comes from helping them to turn their lives around.
What is your most vivid memory of working in Basingstoke?
Discretion and client confidentiality are at the core of what I do as a family lawyer so unfortunately, I can’t spill any beans! But I have many happy memories of working in the town and I keep focused on achieving outcomes for all my clients, big and small. On a personal note, becoming a partner at Lamb Brooks in July this year was an important milestone and feel proud to help lead a successful law firm which has been rooted in the Basingstoke community for over 200 years.
What are the challenges for a man in your role?
The challenges I face as a professional working in the town are by no means gender-specific. We all live in uncertain political and economic times but whatever life throws at us we will find a way for commerce to keep happening.
What do you see for the future of Basingstoke?
Positive. We have excellent connections to the powerhouse that is London, and we can thrive on the back of that as a town, but equally, from talking to the clients I meet there is also a lot of exciting stuff happening locally in business.
What advice would you give young men starting their careers?
Experience counts for as much as what is learnt in the classroom – if not more – so reach out to employers and seize the opportunity to help bolster your CV
