Seeking your top ideas for Basingstoke

18 December 2017

Have your say and contribute towards making Basingstoke town centre an even better place to visit. That’s the message from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council as it launches an exciting new way to share ideas.

The council, in partnership with Basingstoke Together Business Improvement District, is encouraging residents to visit and share what they would like to see in the Top of The Town area, starting with how the space is used in the late afternoon and evening.

All ideas, big or small, are welcome and could include suggestions of different entertainment or events held in the area, bars or restaurants. People are being encouraged to think about how the area generally could be improved in this historic part of town.

The Town Centre Programme which launched in 2013 focuses on supporting businesses to thrive in the Top of The Town. This new approach to sharing ideas is part of this wider plan and is being funded by URBACT as part of the EU RetaiLink Project. By visiting residents can post ideas and vote for what they would like to see in the Top of The Town in the evenings.

This new ideas hub can be accessed on a smart phone, tablet or desktop computer and those wanting to post an idea or vote can do so anonymously but will need to register first which takes just a couple of minutes.

Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration, Arts and Heritage Cllr Terri Reid said: “Our residents tell us that Basingstoke is a great place to live and work but we want to make it even better. We’re really hoping that residents and frequent visitors to the Top of The Town get involved with the discussions.

“The Top of The Town is Basingstoke’s historic heart and an important part of our town centre. Your ideas will help us to form a good picture of how we can make the space even better for everyone.”

Ideas will be considered within the wider plans for developing Basingstoke and Deane.
