Are you looking for your first step into a career in the Leisure Industry?  We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to work full time and join our friendly and professional team. You will need to be a strong swimmer and able to study for a Level 2 NVQ. The duration of the apprenticeship is upto18 months.  Upon the successful completion of your apprenticeship you would have gained a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), First Aid at Work (FAW), Level 2 Swimming Teacher Certificate and/ or Level 2 Fitness or Gym Instruction award.

The successful applicant will work 37 hours across weekdays including early mornings and evenings at Basingstoke Sports Centre. Your work based training will include water safety and supervision of the pools, assisting customers in the gym, setting up and taking down of equipment for different leisure activities, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, providing high levels of customer service, first aid and swimming teaching.

At the interview you must be able to:

  • Jump or Dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 meters on your front within 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres on your front and then on your back
  • Tread water in deep water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out of the pool unaided without ladder/steps

Rate of pay: from £4.12 per hour + benefits

BST (Basingstoke Sports Trust) is a charitable leisure trust based at Festival Place in Basingstoke, Hampshire. We manage two leisure facilities – Basingstoke Sports Centre and our club -best fitness, in Newbury.
